Dagha The Divorce LP
A regular Edan cohort, Dagha step out of the humble magnificent’s shadow to release sophomore LP, ‘The Divorce’. Leaning heavily on the concept tip ‘The Divorce’ centers round the decidedly un-Hip hop subject matter of love and an unsuccessful marriage. If this sounds like it’s in danger of entering schmaltzy Ne-Yo type territory fear not: the ever reliable Lewis Recordings consistently knocks rap stereotypes on the head and ‘The Divorce’ is no different.
With a rap cadence that isn’t dissimilar to Mos Def, minus the righteous subject matters, Dagha drops funny, heartfelt raps and misanthropic rhymes over soulful samples. ‘My Luck’ deals with the dilemma of being a full time rapper versus the 9-5 grind. ‘Cliché’ is similar to Gza’s ‘Labels’, but is littered with the many pointless clichés people use instead.
Similar to label mate Edan Dagha exhibits a charming modesty throughout ‘The Divorce’, but don’t be mislead by any self-deprecations because Dagha has beats and bars that are as sharp as his moniker.
