Australian funk outfit The Bamboos are without doubt one of the best funk bands in the world. With 2 amazing LP’s under their belt, ‘Step It Up’ and last year’s ‘Rawville’ featuring the likes of Alice Russell and Ohmega Watts (Ubiquity), their 3rd LP ‘Side-Stepper’ (out in October) has a tough act to follow.
The 7″ sampler has their own 60’s Soul and boogaloo version of Kings Of Leon’s “King Of The Rodeo” featuring Megan Washington on vand is sure to be as much of a hit with the indie kids as it will the funk and soul purists out on the dancefloors.
The flip of the 7″ is where it really comes alive with me; “I Can’t Help Myself” is a funk-fuelled collaboration with UK artist TY that rivals their smash hit ‘Pussyfootin’ for its ability to get dancefloors moving with pure un-adulterated reckless abandon. An impromptu freestyle on his last tour of Oz planted the seeds for this track and Ty rides the super deep Bamboos groove the way only he can.
A must buy piece of music, both for the DJ’s looking for crossover appeal, and for those who love the funk; LP drops 6th October.
