Scunthorpe’s XL (most difficult UK rapper to efficiently google or find on youtube) has thrown UKHH an exclusive video for new track Verbal Assault. While he’s gained a rep for effortlessly bouncing between genres including grime, dubstep and dnb, he’s planted his feet firmly in hip-hop territory for this one.

XL’s rounded up some serious talent to go in on his latest banger. Verbal Assault comes complete with some pounding, funky beatsmanship from producer Sinima that sounds old school as fuck and heavy scratches courtesy of Jabbathakut. Providing ample flow talent, XL reunites with Nottingham’s Scorzayzee. Check out Altered Perspective which dropped in December to hear the two getting reflective on more of a chilled tip. This time round both rappers come more raw with harder flows, some on point punch lines and a headnodder of a hook. Sick.

The location for the video’s been chosen on its bleak appeal, boasting grey skies, abandoned mattresses, broken windows, barbed wire and a bunch of other run down shit. Doesn’t work very well as an advertisement for prospective tourists or real estate investors looking at Scunthorpe but it fits nicely with the gritty beat production and retro shooting approach.

Verbal Assault is available to download for whatever price you like from https://therealxlmusic.bandcamp.com/ along with a bunch more of XL’s music that is well worth a check. (Relate is a particular favourite of mine. That BDvine instrumental is too smooth!) Scorzayzee’s been busy as ever lately as well. Check out the Illa Scorz EP which also dropped at the start of this week.

As XL and Scorzayzee have now dropped 2 collabs together in the last few months could this be a sign there could be a bigger project on the horizon? While there’s no real basis for the speculation that shit would most likely be dope.
