Potent Funk linchpin Dabbla is back with a banger. ‘Alec Baldwin’ is the first in a string of singles in collaboration with producer JaySun (formerly known as AJSwizzy).
So much love for the newest project on Potent Funk from Illaman. The ever versatile lyricist puts some distance between the bass heavy bangers and live metal that have been his sonic stomping grounds for the last couple years and takes things in a more introspective direction. Symptomatic of the themes pervading the EP, ‘OK’ is both a frank admission of struggling with mental health and a refusal to submit to the downward spiral. Ugly Days is available now, cop it HERE.
Dolenz and Dabbla fucking with a classic here. Sure there’ll be someone somewhere crying sacrilege but Potent Funk can do what they like. This short, pounding Non Phixion flip is taken from the diverse producer’s debut release with the label. The 8 track project dropped a couple weeks ago and its a trip. Cop it here.
Exciting things have been going on lately with the increasing frequency of cross-Atlantic collaboration. Typically ahead of the curve, masters of hybrid sounds Potent Funk have just dropped the debut single from their first US artist. Repping Texas, Gear‘s self produced ‘TYPE-O’ features a chaotic blend of rave sounds and hip hop elements, making for a good fit on the PF roster. What comes next should be interesting.
Dabbla confirming what many have suspected for a while now… The Potent Funkist has been moonlighting under super-hero alter ego Dabbz and doing battle with London’s most dastardly lycra clad villains. Because someone’s got to do it.
Even less of a surprise, ‘Out My Way’ is that high-grade audio-piff to be expected from a Dabbla & Sumgii collab. Lifted from their album Nobody. Dope visual courtesy of This & That Media.
Bristol knows its beats and the debut LP from mesmerising hip-hop producer Baileys Brown comes storming out of the South West later this week on Potent Funk.
With a ferocious roster of MCs spitting the bars – we’re talking Stinkin Slumrok, Datkid, Anbu, Jinxsta JX, Juga-Naut, Hozay, Bil Next, Jay0117, Dabbla, Lee Scott, Bogues, Jordan Nathaniel, LY, Wish Master, Vard and Bew Bonik, not to mention Brown’s own rapping alter ego Axel Holy – Brown doesn’t stay still for a second on the MPC. Sliding from deep-down dirt ‘Something Else Entirely’ to dusty soul ‘Lost In Space’ if there’s one thing Still Fresh is going to do it’s broaden your hip-hop horizons.
The record has already thrown out three well-received videos – ‘Reeboks‘, ‘Horse’s Mouth‘ and most recently ‘Gimme‘ – and their variety offers a clue to the width and breadth of the 13-track record as a whole. The latest off the formidable Potent Funk production line Still Fresh nods to the rise and rise of producer-led albums spreading through the UK hip hop scene and shows a master of the craft at the top of his game.
Still Fresh drops on July 26 on Potent Funk.
New heat out of the Potent Funk camp as Bristol based producer Baileys Brown has just unleashed the second video from his forthcoming album ‘Still Fresh’.

Dope new visual from the London Zoo rapper who’s linked up with Potent Funk for this wavey track produced by Don Piper. On the Spin City directed visual, Cobes is joined by circus performer and model Alénee Aisha who spices the visuals up.
“I had memories of parties and live shows from the past few months. Once I sat down and started writing, it all fell into place, and it dawned on me how these situations became more and more regular. That’s how I came up with the hook, and idea of feeling like I’ve already done this before.. a real sense of deja vu.”
Solid new visual from the well established London rapper who has dropped the second video from the EP ‘Give Us A Smile‘, produced by NormOddity.
Speaking of this track, Illa described how “Shook was written after I had drank a large amount of Jack Daniels. I was struggling to write bars that I was happy with then this beat came into my inbox sometime around 2am. I wrote the whole thing there and then. Sat on my sofa. Hammered and unhappy. I felt a bit of relief after that.”
