The latest release from Gold on the Mixer shows the young London record label is in rude health. Not only does Quite Gone, Gin offer solid beats with intricate bars, it sets new rapper DeSIDE up as a talent to watch in 2020. The young Oxford MC is in good company on the EP, the latest of a slew of 2019 releases from the GOTM crew. With beats by Relentless Exquisite (AKA Elliot Fresh), the EP glides by like butter in a hot pan.
Opener ‘Typowriter’ does exactly what any good starter should do; whetting your appetite with wavy hooks and whipsmart bars. The liquid instrumental of ‘BFG’, meanwhile, compliments DeSIDE’s verbal agility like a Merlot to a slab of dry-aged Sirloin. Closer ‘Basil (ft. Elliot Fresh)’ rounds off the tightly mixed EP, proving you can trim the fat without losing the flavour. And while three tracks won’t be enough to satiate most appetites, Quite Gone, Gin is a perfect entree to the main course LP. Let’s hope they’ve already started cooking.
