The visual for this one may be less music video and more gif but the aesthetics being a non-event is a serious moot point here. Latest release ‘If Only’ from grim poet Kojey Radical is a banger! With the bulk of the lyricist’s output so far being way off the wall, the booming club ready instrumental and infectious mainstream influenced hook combo of ‘If Only’ oozes a level of commercial viability unheard on previous singles. Thankfully and completely unsurprisingly, lurking closer stylistically to the edges of pop hasn’t done a damn thing to dilute the rapper’s trademark depth, rasping delivery or candid darkness. Going in a more accessible direction while still owning a sound akin to melodically tearing your heart out of your chest is no small feat, but versatility seems to come easy for Kojey. Fire.
