The Hidden Truth sees Stealf and Silqe join forces on this 8 track release from De Facto Entertainment. I put on my red and black lumberjack with the hat to match and turned the volume to full..
When listening to this EP it’s easy to get lost in the drums, I’m treated to clean and crisp kicks and snares that take me away on a fantastic voyage back to the golden era of hip hop. Silqe’s vocals sit strongly on each track mixing with creative sample work that never disappoints. Stealf’s production is tight throughout, with the title track being the clear winner on the EP, a fresh take on boom bap nostalgia, epic strings and horns intertwine with Silqe’s vibrant bars for a pristine sixteen… or two.
Silqe is joined by another member of the De Facto family on ‘Society’, Mista Flix and Macca on ‘My Life’, both worthy of mention and finally ‘Monstahhh’, another track that jumps off the page.
This EP reminds me of the good old days of rap, with fat laces and puffy Helly Hansen jackets, with a strong New York influenced flava throughout. Although we have seen much of this style before, it’s got a fresh feel to it and should remind most of us what the true essence of this music should be about, beats and rhymes with that feel good party vibe.
